A QR code is a perfectly polite thing until it is not. Printed on a restaurant table it saves you typing a menu URL; printed on a sticker slapped over a legitimate sign it can send you somewhere you never intended to go. Because the encoded content is invisible until something decodes it, the safest habit is to look at what a code contains before you act on it. That is awkward on a phone, where the camera app jumps straight to the destination. On a desktop it is harder still, because most computers have no built-in reader at all, and a code that arrives as a screenshot in a chat or an attachment in an email has nowhere to go.
